听力原文: Let children learn to evaluate their own work. A child learning to talk does not learn by being corrected all the time. He notices a thousand times a day the difference between the language he uses and the language those around him use. Bit by bit, he makes the necessary changes to make his language like other people's. In the same way, when children learn to do all the other things, for example, to walk, run, climb, ride a bicycle, they learn to do them without being told. They compare their performances with those of more skilled people, and slowly make the needed changes. But in school we never give a child a chance to find out his own mistakes for himself, let alone correct them. We do it all for him as If we thought that he would never notice a mistake unless it was pointed out to him, or correct it unless he was made to. Soon he became dependent on the teacher. Let him do it himself. Let him work out, with the help of other children, what this word means, what answer is to that problem, whether it is a good way to say or do this or not.

If it is a matter of right answers, give him the answer book. Let him correct his own papers. Why should we teachers waste time on such routine work? Our job should be to help the child when he tells us that he can't find the way to get the right answer. Let's end this nonsense of grades, exams, marks. Let's throw them all out, and let the children learn what all educated persons must some day learn, how to measure their own understanding, how to know what they know or do not know.

(23)

A.They learn to do them by being corrected all the time.

B.They learn to do them by being taught by skilled people.

C.They learn to do them through comparison and discovery.

D.They learn to do them with the help of other children.

听力原文: W: Can I help you?

M: Yes, my son and my daughter bought this pen here for my wife's birthday, but it doesn't work so I'd like to exchange it.

W: I see, do you have the receipt with you?

M: Yes, here it is.

W: OK, let me see the pen please. Hmm. It doesn't work at all, does it? We'll be happy to exchange it for you. Let's see, I'm afraid we don't have another purple one.

M: Oh, now what will I do?

W: Would you like to choose a different color? We do have this pen in black and yellow.

M: My wife doesn't care for either of those colors. You don't have any other colors?

W: We have it with a red leather cover. That's three dollars more.

M: I don't think so. The children worked hard to save up the eleven dollars for this one. They would probably be upset if I paid for part of their present.

W: If you want, we can order another pen just like this one. There wouldn't be any extra charge for it.

M: That sounds like a good idea. Thank you.

Why did the man’s children buy the pen?

A.It’s a present for the man’s birthday.

B.It’s a birthday present for the man’s wife.

C.It’s a birthday present for the man’s son.

D.It’s a birthday present for the man’s daughter.

听力原文: The American tradition of sending children to summer camp began more than 100 ye
ars ago. Today, summer camps for children have become very important to millions of families. Many American women now work outside the home. Working parents need a place where their children can be cared for during the summer when they are not in school.

Camps help children, too. For most children, overnight camp is the only time during the year independent. Campers live together in cloth tents or in wood cabins. They eat their meals together in a large dining room. Sometimes, however, the first time at summer camp can be difficult. Children might not like living with other campers. They might not like the food. Or, they might not like to do things like swimming in a cold lake. Some new campers miss their parents very much.

Mental health expert Chris Thurber studied almost 330 boy campers, who were between the ages of eight and sixteen. They were staying at an overnight camp. 83% reported that they wished they were at home at least one day during their time at camp. The American Camping Association suggests that parents prepare children before sending them to camp. They say parents should let children help choose the camp. And they advise parents to discuss what the camp will be like and what campers will need to know. Experts say young children may feel better at camp if they bring a toy from home and if their parents write letters to them often.

(30)

A.They can make more friends.

B.They can have a chance to be away from their parents.

C.They can have a chance to get close to nature.

D.They can have a chance to feel a sense of independence.
