听力原文: A survey of 2006 indicates that engineers still get top salary offers, but accounting and finance majors are catching up quickly. So far this academic year, college seniors in most majors are experiencing an increase in starting-salary offers, according to a quarterly survey published by the National Association of Colleges & Employers. "By and large, the average salary increases which were offered by employers to new college graduates were respectable, and some were even outstanding," Marilyn Mackes, executive director of the National Association of Colleges and Employers said in a statement.

Topping the list of highest-paid majors were chemical engineers who fetched $55,900 on average, followed by electrical engineering majors at $52,899. Despite a drop of 0.3 percent, compared to the 2004 to 2005 academic year, mechanical engineers took third place with an average salary of $50,672. The survey, which polled 83 different private and public schools across the country, revealed that computer science graduates might not get as much as they did in previous years, as offers fell slightly to $50,046. Accounting and economics or finance experienced the biggest growth, claiming up to the fifth and sixth spots, and succeeded in order by civil engineering, management and marketing. Liberal arts majors, which included both natural and social science majors such as History and English, finished last with a starting salary of $30,828, but experienced an increase of 6.1 percent compared to last year.

听力原文: The first "National Sample Survey of People's Reading Trends" was successfully accomplished. The survey shows that in modern Chinese society, "reading" is not limited to books, newspapers and magazines; it is a process that can be completed through all kinds of media and by various means. It is delightful to note people's common view that reading is crucial to an individual's development.

The survey was conducted among some 3,000 adults from 12 provinces and cities nationwide. And statistics reveal that different media and different types of publications function differently in meeting people's spiritual needs. To get to know both domestic and international news, and current trends, people mainly watch TV and read newspapers; to acquire information related to their own jobs, study and professional knowledge, they mostly choose books and TV programs; while preferring TV and VCD for relaxation and recreation.

In terms of the utilization of media in people's spare time, TV has the greatest number of viewers, while newspapers, magazines, books and radio come second with regard to number of readers. Quite a few people spend a fairly long time using audio and video products and computers.

Speaking of the purpose of reading, men stress the broadening of horizon and catering for their hobbies and interests while women emphasize improvement of self-cultivation, meeting social contact and coping with tests.

听力原文: On Feb 15th, 1989, an instant survey was carried out among 18 overseas postgraduate students. Eleven students were male and seven were female. The purpose of the survey was to discover the views of the students on a number of matters of personal concern. The survey was conducted by means of a questionnaire given to the students to complete. There were five questions. The first question concerned favorite color and the .second favorite number. The next 3 questions were all concerned with aspects of marriage. No. 3 looked at the ideal age to get married, No. 4 examined the qualities looked for in a partner and No. 5 asked about the ideal number of children. The main findings were as follows: Blue was the most popular color. This was followed by Green and Purple. There was no real significance in the choice of lucky numbers. About one third of the students said that they had none. Sixty-one percent of the students selected the age group 26 to 30 years as ideal for marriage, followed by 21 to 25 years. In looking for the most important qualities in an ideal partner, someone hoped the person to be Intelligent, others chose Natural, and still others indicated Attractive and Honest. The ideal number of children was 2, followed by 3. It is not easy to reach any definite conclusions based upon such a small sample of students from such widely different backgrounds. However, it is clear that majority favorite of 26 to 30 is the ideal age to get married with an intelligent partner, thereby producing 2 children.

听力原文: The purpose of communication is to get your message across to others. This is a process that involves both the sender of the message and the receiver. This process leaves room for errors, with messages often misinterpreted by one or more of the parties involved. In fact, a message is successful only when both the sender and the receiver perceive it in the same way. By successfully getting your message across, you convey your thoughts and ideas effectively.

In a recent survey of recruiters from companies with more than 50,000 employees, communication skills were cited as the single most important decisive factor in choosing managers. The survey points out those communication skills, including written and oral presentations, as well as an ability to work with others, are the main factors contributing to job success.

In spite of the increasing importance placed on communication skills, many individuals continue to struggle with this, unable to communicate their thoughts and ideas effectively. This inability makes it nearly impossible for them to compete effectively in the workplace.

Getting your message across is paramount to progressing. To do this, you must understand what your message is, what audience you are sending it to, and how it will be perceived. You must also weigh in the circumstances surrounding your communications.

(33)

A.How to communicate effectively.

B.Why successful communication are important.

C.What communication is.

D.How to avoid direct communication.

听力原文: The use of illegal drugs by U.S. teenagers has increased in the past two years, according to the latest survey by University of Michigan researchers. The increase reverses a downward trend in drug use among teenagers that began in the late 1970s.

Results of a survey of 50,000 eighth, tenth and twelfth graders throughout the United States indicated a sharp rise in the use of drugs. The researchers also noted an increase in the percentage of students who smoke cigarettes, a drop in the percentage of students who drink alcohol, and no change in cocaine use, which remained at a low level.

Although the general rise in the use of drugs is disturbing, the numbers are still far below the recorded high level of drug use in the 1970s.

A consistent drop in drug use, such as the one that occurred be- fore the recent rise, can't be taken for granted, because each generation of American youth has almost no knowledge of drugs and has to learn the same hard lessons.

(26)

A.A slight drop in the use of cocaine.

B.A drop in the use of cigarettes.

C.A sharp rise in the use of drugs.

D.A rise in the use of alcohol.

听力原文: Today I want to help you with a study reading method known as SQ3R. The letters stand for five steps in the reading process: Survey, Question, Read, Review, Recite. Each of the steps should be done carefully and in the order mentioned.

In all study reading, a survey should be the first step. Survey means to look quickly, Don't stop to read complete sentences. Just look at the important divisions of the material.

The second step is question. Try to form. questions based on your survey. Use the question words who, what, when, where, why, and how.

Now you are ready for the third step--read. You will be rereading the titles and important words that you look at in the survey. But this time you will read the examples and details as well. Sometimes it is useful to take notes while you read. I have had students who preferred to underline important points, and it seems to be just as useful as note- taking. What you should do, whether you take notes or underline, is to read actively. Think about what you are reading as a series of ideas, not just a sequence of words.

The fourth step is review. Remember the questions that you wrote down before you read the material. You should be able to answer them now. You will notice that some of the questions were treated in more detail in the reading. Concentrate on those. Also review material that you did not consider in your questions.

The last step is recite. Try to put the reading into your own words. Summarize it either in writing or orally.

(31)

A.A new way to take notes.

B.A short name for survey reading method.

C.The five steps in the reading process.

D.Different ways to study for examinations.

听力原文: One of ray main goals in this survey course of American painting and architecture is to train you to see. I want you to increase your stock of visual experiences by using the slide library at least five hours a week. The library, which is maintained by the Art History Department, is located in the basement of the Art Center, and is open seven days a week.

By the end of this course, I expect you to be able to identify two thousand slides of various American works of art. Slide identification questions will appear on the weekly exam and the final. During each of the ten weeks of this course, I will show a set of two hundred slides during my lectures. You should plan on looking at each set twice in the slide library, once before the week's lectures end one after. This pattern of three exposures will improve your visual memory. Please do not remove the slides from the slide library. Doing so is a cause for dismissal from the course.

Although becoming familiar with two thousand slides may sound difficult, experience has shown me that this is the beast way to increase the visual abilities of students such as yourselves, who have never taken an art history course before.

(33)

A.The material to be tested that day.

B.The history of the slide library.

C.The use of slides in the course.

D.The outline of the course.

听力原文: The world's smartest adolescence in mathematics and science are Singapore, according to a global survey of educational achievement. In the 3rd International Mathematics and Science Study, 13yearolds from Singapore achieved the best scores in standardized tests d math and science that were administered to 287,896 students in 41 countries in 1994 and 1995. The survey suggests that science and math education is especially strong in the Far East. While well behind those top scores, students from Australia earned higher marks in math than their counterparts in England, who in turn did better than American students. The study collected information on the students' teachers and homes. Not surprisingly, the highestscoring students had walleducated parents or came from homes containing studyaids such as computers, dictionaries or even such elementry facilities as desks. The study shows that boys generally did better than girls in science, but there was little difference between them in math. Boys scored better than girls in physics and chemistry. There were no sex differences in the life and environmental sciences. In addition to being tested, students in the project were asked how proficient they thought they were in math and .science. Students in some countries, such as Columbia and Kuwait, had an overly optimistic view of their skills. Meanwhile, some of the beat students from Japan and Korea for example were needlessly pessimistic even though they did far better in math than almost all of the other students.

A.Students from America.

Interviewee: Half past six on weekdays, but on weekends, I always get up late.

Interviewer: How late?

Interviewee: About 11:00 or 12:00. I think I must reward myself for working hard all week.

Interviewer: Of course, you've earned it. Do you work best in the mornings or in the afternoons?

Interviewee: Well, I guess ... in the mornings. I seldom study in the afternoon. You see, my mind is awful then, so I have to take a nap,...a long nap for 2—3 hours ... or ... can't concentrate ...

Interviewer: I see. Do you often stay up late?

Interviewer: That's funny. Almost everyone in your school says that. Thank you very much.

听力原文: How many men do housework? Recently a European commission tried to find out people's ideas and reactions to the women's movement. As part of the survey, they asked many men and women the question, "Who does the housework?" The men answered very differently from the women!

The housework they asked people about was: preparing meals, washing dishes, cleaning the house and baby-sitting. 48% of British husbands said they did these things. 37% of Danish men helped in the house. But only 15% of Italian men said they did the housework; many of them said they never helped at all.

But there was an interesting point of view from the wives. According to British wives, only 38% of their husbands helped in the house. And Italian wives said that their husbands hardly ever helped. The Italian and British men did not tell the truth! The commission found that Danish men were the most trustful husbands; their answers were the same as their wives' answers.

B.In Italy.
