听力原文: The World Health Organization is to call for strict controls on junk food in a major campaign against obesity, and the agency will unveil its actual strategy next week. Based on evidence obtained through various investigations, the WHO believes that obesity has become a global epidemic that is directly associated with more than 30 million deaths each year. According to the agency, obesity is now one of the world's three greatest health threats, along with smoking and malnutrition. Recent estimates suggest that 1.7 billion people are now obese, which has led to a surge in diseases such as cancers and diabetes.

The WHO will call for heavy cuts in the use of sugar, salt and saturated fats. And this is bound to sound the alarm to many of Britain's top-selling brands, including Cadbury's, Coca-Cola, and Birds Eye. The WHO will produce a policy paper calling for new daily limits for sugar, salt and fats, as well as tougher control of food advertising. According to the figures issued by the WHO, the safety threshold for sugar would be 10gms a day—a limit already exceeded by one 500ml bottle of cola and, salt should be limited to 5gms a day—the amount of salt contained in a standard tin of baked beans.

听力原文: The Unite Nations (UN) is the largest organization on the earth because it involves most of the countries in the world. The UN has the most important goal in the world z peace. Although all people and countries want peace, it is often forgotten because of anger, power, and many other complex human emotions. Because peace is not as strong as war, because peace is not as loud as war, because peace is not as active as war, it is often lost in the fast pace of life. After the two major world wars of the last century, the people of the world formed the UN in order to work cooperatively toward peace and better lives for all.

The UN has not been as successful toward this goal as many hoped. Yet it is the best organized group working toward peace. With more than 130 members, nearly all the countries in the world, the UN has a good chance of achieving its goals. With more money and more of a commitment from some of the most powerful members, the UN could surely be more effective than it is today. However, disagreements and power struggles among the members have so far prevented the achievement of peace.

听力原文: One of the biggest problems in developing countries is hunger. An organization called Heifer International is working to improve the situation. The organization sends farm animals to families and communities around the world. Pal American farmer Dan West developed the idea for Heifer International in the 1930s. Mr. West was working in Spain where he discovered a need for cows. Many families were starving because of the Civil War in that country. So Mr. West asked his friends in the Unites States to send some cows. The first Heifer animals were sent in 1944. Since that time more titan 4 million people in 115 countries have had better lives because of heifer animals. To receive a Heifer animal, families must first explain their needs and goals. They must also make a plan which will allow them to become selfsupporting. Local experts usually provide training. The organization says that animals must have food, water, shelter, health care and the ability to reproduce. Without them, the animals will not remain healthy and productive. Heifer International also believes that families must pass on some of their success to others in need. This belief guarantees that each person who takes part in the program also becomes a giver. Every family that receives a Heifer animal must agree to give that animal's first female baby to other people in need. Families must also agree to pass on the skills and training they receive from Heifer International. This concept helps communities become selfsupporting.

(33)

听力原文: In early American history, a hero was a man who was wise, brave and able to save his country from trouble. George Washington was a great American hero. He fought courageously in the Revolutionary War and won independence from Great Britain for the United States. His wisdom and leadership were largely responsible for the organization of the government and for the development of the country.

The modern American hero must be daring and independent as he solves problems. His problems may or may not be national ones. Most of the time they are problems that involve principles like religious freedom or civil fights. For example, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a modem hero, tried to achieve equal rights for the American black people. He gave his life for the principle of human equality.

However, most American heroes are those who axe less concerned with national crises than they are with simple, everyday problems in life. American heroism can be seen in those who rush into burning buildings to save books and manuscripts; who run into paths of automobiles to save the life of a stranger; who work very hard to do credit to their family or faith through sports, music or volunteer services.

In brief, anyone in America can become a hero, and everyone should try to behave like a hero.

(23)

A.American heroes in history.

B.The importance of American heroes.

C.Modern American heroes.

D.American heroism.

听力原文: In all economic systems today, most businesses of any size rely on one system of organization: the division of labor. This means that the workers are specialized. Each worker has a particular duty to perform. as one part of the whole operation.

A good example of the division of labor is an assembly line in an automobile factory. One worker may install a door while another adds lights. Normally, workers stay in one place, and a conveyor belt moves the product to them. If one worker had the responsibility of producing an entire car, he or she might be able to complete one each year. By comparison, factories with assembly lines may produce an average of about thirty-five cars a years per worker.

The division of labor permits mass production, but it does have some disadvantages. For one thing, few people know or understand all aspects of an operation, In addition, mass production may be more efficient, but many workers complain that they get little job satisfaction from working on one small duty, day after day, To them, there is much more satisfaction in doing a job from beginning to end.

(33)

A.The division of labor means that workers are general.

B.The division of labor means that workers are specialized.

C.The division of labor means that each worker is in charge of the whole operation.
