听力原文: There are three types of noise that can block communication. The first, external noise includes those obvious things that make it difficult to hear, as well as many other kinds of distractions. For instance, too much cigarette smoke in a crowded room might make it hard for you to pay attention to another person, and sitting in the rear of an auditorium might make a speaker's remarks unclear. External noise can interrupt communication almost anywhere in our model -- in the sender, channel, message, or receiver.

The second type of noise is physiological. A hearing disorder is probably the most obvious type of physiological barrier, although many more exist. Consider, for instance, the difficulty you experience as a listener when you are suffering from a cold or are very tired. In the same way you might speak less when you have a sore throat or a headache.

Psychological noise refers to forces within the sender or receiver that make these people less able to express or understand the message clearly. For instance, a fisherman might exaggerate the size and number of fish caught in order to convince himself and others of his talents. In the same way, a student might become so upset upon learning that she failed a test that she would be unable to clearly understand where she went wrong.

(30)

A.Three types of noise that can make communication difficult.

B.The meaning of external noise.

C.The effect of cigarette smoke.

D.The reason why you can become speechless.

听力原文: City traffic is a great problem. More cars are produced every year and the stree
ts are getting more and more crowded. So during" rush hours", when people are going to or from their work, traffic is brought to a standstill. It has been suggested that commuters should share their cars and give each other lifts. It is an excellent idea, however, so far nobody has been able to think of a way to compel people to do so.

To discourage motorists from leaving their cars in the streets all day, parking meters are used. When you park at a meter, you will pay a coin. This pays for a certain amount of time. The meter re cords this and it shows when the time that you have paid for is finished. If the car is still there then, you have to pay a fine.

Traffic wardens look after the meters. They walk around the streets and check that every meter shows that money has been paid for the car parked there. If a meter registers" time expired", the motorist who has left his car there is fined. Of course, the traffic :warden cannot wait for the owner of car to return. He carries a block of printed forms, and on one of these he writes down all the details, such as the registration number of the car, where it is parked, how much the driver must pay and where he must send the money. He leaves this form. on the car where the driver will be able to see it easily; he usually pushes it under one of the windscreen wipers so that it will not blow away. And in case it rains before the motorist returns, the form. is put in a little plastic envelope to protect it. When the driver comes back, he gets an unpleasant surprise, but it is his own fault for leaving his car too long at a parking meter.

What is "rush hours"?

A.A period when cars are rushing on the roads.

B.A period when people are going to or from their work.

C.A period when cars are crowed on the roads.

D.A period when people are crowed in the buses.

听力原文: When Iraqi troops blew up hundreds of Kuwaiti oil wells at the end of the Gulf War, scientists feared environmental disaster. Would black powder in the smoke from the fires circle the globe and block out the sun?

Many said "No way. Rain would wash the black powder from the atmosphere. But in America, air sampling balloons have detected high concentrations of particles similar to those that were collected in Kuwait. Some oil didn't catch fire. It has formed huge lakes in the Kuwaiti desert. They trap insects and birds, and poison a variety of other desert animals and plants.

The only good news is that the oil lakes have not affected the underground water resources. So far, the oil has not been absorbed because of the hard sand just below the surface.

Nothing, however, stops the oil from evaporating. The resulting poisonous gases are choking nearby residents. Officials are trying to organize a quick cleanup, but they are not sure how to do it. One possibility is to burn the oil. Get those black-powder detectors ready.

The consequence of the Gulf War that has called the concerns of the scientists is ______.

A.The threat of poisonous desert animals and plants.

B.The exhaustion of energy resources.

C.The destruction of oil wells.

D.The spread of the black powder from the rims.
