听力原文: Mrs. Brown was over eighty, but she still drove her old car like a woman half her age. She loved driving very fast and boasted of the fact that she had never, in her thirty-five years of' driving, been punished for a driving offence.

Then one day she nearly lost her record. A police car followed her, and the policeman in it saw her pass a red light without stopping.

When Mrs. Brown came before the judge, he looked at her severely and said that she was too old to drive a car, and that the reason why she had not stopped at the red light was most probably that her eyes had become weak with old age, so that she had simply not seen it.

When the judge had finished what he was saying, Mrs. Brown opened the big handbag she was carrying and took out her sewing. Without saying a word, she chose a needle with a very small eye, and threaded it at her first attempt.

When she had successfully done this, she took the thread out of the needle again and handed both the needle and the thread to the judge, saying, "Now it is your turn. I suppose you drive a car, trod that you have no doubt about your own eyesight."

The judge took the needle and tried to thread it.. After half a dozen attempts, he had still not succeeded. The case against Mrs. Brown was dismissed and her record remained unbroken.

(33)

A.She broke her record.

B.She didn't stop at a red light.

C.She saw an accident.

D.She stopped at a red light.

听力原文: Jenny never wanted to be a national public figure. All she wanted to be was a mother and a homemaker. But her life was turned upside down when a motorist distracted by his cell phone, ran a stop sign and crashed into the side of her car. The impact killed her two-year-old daughter. Four months later, Jenny reluctantly but courageously decided to try to educate the public and to fight for laws to ban drivers from using cell phones while a car is moving. She wanted to save other children from what happened to her daughter. In her first speech, Jenny got off to a shaky start. She was visibly trembling and her voice was soft and uncertain. But as she got into her speech, a dramatic transformation took place. She stopped shaking and spoke with a strong voice. For the rest of her talk, she was a forceful and compelling speaker. She wanted everyone in the audience to know what she knew without having to learn it from a personal tragedy. Many in the audience were moved to tears, and to action. In subsequent presentations, Jenny gained reputation as a highly effective speaker. Her appearance on a talk show was broadcast three times transmitting her message to over 14,000,000 people. Her campaign increased public awareness of the problem and prompted over 300 cities and several states to consider restrictions on cell phone use.

What was the significant change in Jenny's life?

A.She became a public figure.

B.She made a successful speech.

C.She had a terrible lesson.

D.She was hurt in the accident.

D

Dolphins are interesting animals. Working with them is fun, because you never know what they will come up with to surprise you.

Remember when your mom used to cut up your food? Circe, a show dolphin, won' t eat fish unless someone cuts the fins(鱼鳍) off. Diana Reiss, a scientist who worked with Circe, knew that. But one day she forgot.

Reiss was training Circe to " stay at station" in front of her. Every time the dolphin swam off, Reiss gave her a time-out by backing away from the side of the pool and standing at a distance. When Circe stayed, Reiss fed her a piece of fish. But then she gave her a piece with fins by mis-take.

Circe looked at Reiss, spat(吐) out the fish, and swam across the pool. She took an upright position in the water and simply " stood" there. Circe was communicating(交流) loud and clear. "I felt as if I had gotten the time-out ! " says Reiss.

Another dolphin, Pete, enjoyed his meals of fish served up by his trainer. But a wild bird star- ted to show up at every feeding to steal some of the dolphin' s supper. Pete was definitely not hap-py about that.

One day when Pete' s trainer gave him frozen fish, Pete let them sink to the bottom of his pool. Between shows he dived down and pushed eight fish up to the surface, and managed to keep all of them afloat. For five minutes, the bird watched anxiously. Finally, the bird took the bait. When it did, Pete caught the bird' s feet and pulled it underwaterl Then took care of that little thief.

69. Reiss would feed Circe a fish _________.
